Reid's 3/5 Compromise on Burris?

As noxious as I may find the politics of a man like Roland Burris, I think Harry Reid's are worse. In the wake of the election of our first African-American president, Harry Reid is boldly pushing the US Senate into the 1850's like only a liberal Democrat can.

NFL teams use throwback jerseys to keep things old school. Harry Reid, sans throwback jersey, is floating the compromise idea that Roland Burris, soon to replace Obama as the only sitting African-American senator, be allowed office space and "maybe some kind of salary," but no Senate Desk in the chamber or ability to vote.

Burris, was appointed to replace Obama by Illinois Governor Hot Rod Blagojevich, one of the most visibly corrupt politicians to bubble to the surface of the Illinois political cesspool in a long time. Blago is also the subject of an indictment regarding, at least in part, his alleged auction of that same Senate Club seat.

The problem is that legally Blago is completely within his authority to appoint whomever he pleases to the seat. Where are the cries of racism while Harry Reid puts Senate politics in the way-back machine and gets ready to go antebellum Democrat on Burris' ass?

We probably won't hear any. We all know a liberal Democrat can't be racist. Even while they prepare to organize themselves to resist seating the man who would be the Senate's only African American.

In the meantime, while the Democrat contingent in the Senate is predicated on representing the African-American community, not a single black man or woman has a vote in the United States Senate. It's just like old times. Brought to you by Harry Reid. Stephen Douglas would be proud.
