A Reagan Moment

In the middle of the hysteria surrounding the inauguration of Barack Hussein Obama as our 44th President today, I thought it appropriate to mention the last great man to hold the office. The first sound clip of his presidency? "Government is not the solution to the problem... Government IS the problem."

Ronald Wilson Reagan came to office in the middle of a deep recession, and a lot of us were struggling. I remember being a small boy with my stepdad out of work and my mom taking me to school in the morning in a car with no heater. I remember when McDonald's was a real treat and we ate a lot of sugar toast and Manwiches.

Ronald Reagan faced some really serious challenges abroad, too. Hostages were being held by the same sort of terrorists that are at our throats again now, and the Soviet Union was just waiting for the facade of capitalism to crumble for good and prove them and their minions right... and allow them to enslave us all.

At his inaugural address he challenged us to fight for America's survival as if it all depended upon YOU alone. This emphasis on individualism and freedom was what helped to rekindle America during his presidency and played a great part in the last generation of growth and prosperity.

As we conservatives lick our wounds and prepare to fight back, two of the many lessons he taught us about WINNING came back to me and I thought that, in light of the nuttiness surrounding Washington today, I would share them.

1. It's great to call yourself conservative, but you have to actually BE conservative. Republicans, that means you. That means having the faith and confidence in the free market and Americanism and the problem solving abilities of our industries and markets to NOT do things like bailing out businesses and nationalizing industries. The press may not like it, and Dems sure won't, but the American people will see the truth and they will ultimately support a conservative who really IS a conservative.

2. When the GOP boobs in Washington don't get it, go over their heads. That means taking the case to the people and not being afraid of what the Washington establishment thinks or says. Even the GOP gets changed by Washington. In fact, you could say they get changed the MOST, because they show up talking a bunch of conservative talk and, soon enough, end up buying votes with government money.

Let's stand up and take this country back. It's up to us. We have an advantage in that we have a great man whose shoulders we can stand on. As that great man once said, "Our brightest days are ahead of us."
