Records Show PETA HQ Kills 90% of Animals in its Care

Records obtained from the Virginia state government show an interesting statistic regarding animals in PETA's Virginia HQ shelter. The group, known for it's hot ads and hotter rhetoric against carnivires, killed more than 90% of its guests in 2007. Better yet, they found adoptive homes for less than 1%.

When you pay attention to the news it becomes increasingly difficult to be surprised at any level of hypocrisy displayed by leftists. Wealthy socialists who are anxious to spread everyone else's wealth. Environmentalists who take private jets. Silver-spoon anarchists rioting at Starbucks. But this one might take the cake.

The records, published by PetaKillsAnimals, indicate that between 1998 and 2007, more than 83% of the animals in Peta's care were euthanized. In fact, over ten years, the group leading us all to a healthy appreciation for the feelings of "sea kitties" (fish) and preaching veganism ceaselessly were busy killing 19,200 animals. That's almost one for every business hour they were open. From the article:

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, a group that complains bitterly when animals die accidentally in horse races or intentionally in slaughterhouses, killed more than 90 percent of the adoptable animals in its care during 2007.

With the help of Virginia's public records law, we did a little digging. Responding to our formal legal request, the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) has released PETA's 2007 "Animal Record" report. Although VDACS itself has still not relased this report, we're making it available to the general public.

PETA claims to be dedicated to protecting animals and treating them "ethically"—it’s right there in the group’s name. But killing animals that could otherwise be placed in adoptive homes isn’t terribly ethical, especially for a group whose $30 million annual income is more than enough to do the right thing instead.

Maybe everyone's just being a little hard on the PETA crowd. I mean, a lot of animals at shelters are sick and difficult to adopt out, right?

In comparison, the Virginia Beach SPCA, right down the road from PETA’s Norfolk headquarters, managed to adopt out almost 70% of the animals in its care last year. And it did it on a relative shoestring budget.

Hmmm... maybe not.

One thing's for sure. PETA will be strongly represented in the Obama administration with the appointment of Cass Sunstein as regulatory czar in Obama's "moderate" administration. With all these "moderates" busy in Obama's administration, I wonder what the loony left is up to?
