Pelosi: Firm Grasp on Power; Any Grasp on Reality?

by Patrick Gibson

It may be hard to believe, but a couple hundred thousand of the most left wing individuals in the most left wing neighborhood in the most left wing city in the most left wing state of our country have thrust upon us the legislative era of Pelosi. No matter how the rest of us feel about it, she is third in succession to the Presidency. How can the media covers for her I do not know. Even with the media bias factored in, she makes Dan Quayle look like Winston Churchill.

A look at Wikipedia tells us a little bit about her; the daughter of Thomas D'Alesandro, Jr., a US Congressman from Maryland, she was born into the rarified circles of the Washington, DC elite. She represents one of the safest Democrat districts in the country, San Francisco. She is pro-abortion to the point where she makes me nervous, and I am 38 years old. In fact she is a leader of the pro-abortion movement, even though her consituents generally don't get pregnant the consequences of heterosexual sex are not as evident in San Francisco. And lest you think we are not looking at a very unified cadre of ultra-leftists at the top of our national government, she was nominated as Speaker by Rahm Emmanuel.

What we know her for on the right, however, is for her ignorance liberalism. From her threats to impeach Bush, retracted and delivered again and again, to her insistence that natural gas is not a fossil fuel, to her misstatement of the Catholic position on abortion. It goes on and on.

Even liberal Slate Magazine has noted her ineptitude,"To understand her politics, think Huffington Post without the flashes of wit. Here is a typical Bush-bashing, cliché-ridden quote of hers: "The emperor has no clothes. When are people going to face the reality? Pull this curtain back!" Pelosi dismisses people who disagree as hoodwinked or stupid. She's not exactly Hillary Clinton herself, though. A five-minute interview is usually sufficient to exhaust her knowledge on any subject. And she can flop around like a fish. When Rep. Jack Murtha, D-Pa., proposed a pullout, or "redeployment," of U.S. troops from Iraq in November, Pelosi's first reaction was to isolate him. "Mr. Murtha speaks for himself," she said. But after taking a drubbing from left-wing bloggers and her anti-war constituents, she announced that she supported Murtha after all. This shored up her image as Washington's answer to Barbra Streisand, and set up Dick Cheney to paint the Democrats as defeatist and unsupportive of our troops in Iraq."

For me, the best moment so far has been the bailout fiasco, which of course she championed it, even getting many less-reliable republicans to pledge support for it. But when it came time to vote she lambasted these same republicans upon whom she was depending in the most antagonistic terms possible. Of course they deserted her, and she promptly attacked them yet again for abandoning her.

In other societies they would stigmatize the mentally ill. We elect them. The media has given her a free pass so far. There is no reason to suspect that it will end any time soon. We will be paying for her biggest malfeasance for generations. I am referring to her arrogant promise of the most ethical congress ever, and that "not one cent" would be spent without paying for it. It is a trillion dollarsin overspending later. That comes out to about $4,000 for every man, woman, and child in this country. And she is calling for more.
