In these days, it seems that the political sides in America can't agree on much. There is even plenty of room for disagreement over what used to be universally accepted terms used in the English language. Words like marriage, success, freedom, and privacy are all words that, if one were to ask both a conservative and a liberal to define, might yield interestingly different results. So it is with words like failure, and even secret. Is something a secret because it isn't obvious, or is it a secret because no one talks about it? The automakers are once again agitating to be taken over by the federal government, furthering the most bizarre revolution in world history, as executives of major corporations beg to become wards of the state.
It is no surprise that they are failing. Between heavy handed government intervention in their industry (thanks AlGore!), and decades of compliant, doughy, weak management the automakers have never stood up to their unions. That is the little secret that will cause the auto bailout to fail miserably. This is a logical consequence of merely pumping cash into a business plan that has been forced, by poor negotiations with unions, to put no-work jobs and retiree healthcare before profits.
What seems to be lost in the flood of news items about the bailout is how everyone dependent on the automakers will now be dependent upon the government. In a recipe for corruption unseen since the UN, French and Russians schemed discount oil for themselves in exchange for food (paid for by US taxpayers, most likely) that was supposed to feed the hungry.
Which brings me to the big secret. The fact is that America in the last year has transformed itself into a kleptocracy. The whole nation wonders why white-collar criminals get away with it. Why a bandit who steals $500 spends 10 years in prison and a bandit who steals $500 Million never has to miss a child's birthday party.
The fact is the industry fat-cats and government fat-cats are one and the same. Google Rahm Emmanuel and Fannie Mae. Ditto Franlin Raines. Jim Johnson. Just look at what Blagojevich was doing, for chrissakes! Most people at least wear a mask when they behave that way.
It is time to clean out the boardrooms of these corrupt companies and time to send a message to Washington that we won't stand for the elitist insiders divvying up our children's birthright. We have lain our republic at risk for the empty promises of a third-world personality cult. The new kleptocracy is in place and already forcing their will on we the people. We will see that when they spend billions of our dollars to tide over failed Detroit automakers and their union leeches. Tide over until what? Until the full-scale looting of America begins on Jan 20.
